So it all came down to the Final weekend with slow starters Wales taking on Lancaster’s dominant England for the title. Old rivalries in sport don’t come much deeper than Wales v England and the Millennium Stadium was just big enough to contain the passion of the supporters. As can often be the case the game failed to live up to expectations with Wales proving too strong to take the title.
Italy had gone into the championship with the bold aim of winning two games and it was job done in Rome as they beat an out of sorts Ireland who failed to click after injuries and yellow cards.
It was left to Scotland to save their Irish neighbours from the wooden spoon. A defeat to France in Paris but by a small enough margin meant that Les Blues, a fancied side to take the title, would end the tournament in last place.
It’s a funny old game…
Ireland v Italy
Wales v England
France v Scotland
