The record books were the winners in a rather dull weekend for fans of running rugby. Never was the Northern Hemisphere – Southern Hemisphere divide more apparent as the conditions conspired to make the Celts and French clashes kicking games.
The Ireland game may be remembered as Brian O’Driscoll’s final game on home soil in an Ireland shirt. A shame then that it was not graced with one of his tries. Taking a knock late o, he was helped from the pitch for what looked like a sad end to his Irish career. Ireland then conceded a try to the French and it looked as if any team was going to win it was the visitors when he again appeared from the tunnel. You truly could not keep him down. There was no miracle ending but he was in there battling to the end.
Sunday’s game promised more. Surely England to try and try and try again to play some rugby against the Italians lead by reinstated Sergio Parisse. No one gave Italy the script and kicking again ruled the day. #boots
