Following the success of the Rugby Positions Series on LineoutCoach.com, Gavin Hickie has been approached by Bloomsbury publishing house in London to write a book featuring the best rugby players in the world, outlining what it takes to get to the top of the professional game.
“It’s a great honour to be approached to write this book by the leading rugby title publisher,” said LineoutCoach founder Gavin Hickie. “My co-author Eilidh Donaldson and I are passionate about helping players and coaches reach their rugby potential and this book gives us the opportunity to take that to another level.”
The guide will focus on the technical, mental and physical skills required to play each rugby position. The insights of the elite professional players will be coupled with key performance statistics to give an informative and engaging introduction to the sport.
Former pro player Gavin Hickie stressed the book would give the players’ perspective on the modern game. “This guide is about today’s winners inspiring the future generation of champions. This isn’t theory, this is practical experience earned on the field. It’s about players teaching players.”
Published to coincide with the Rugby World Cup 2015, Kirsty Schaper, Commissioning Editor for Bloomsbury said “I’m excited to be working on this project and believe the approach taken will really make this book stand out.” Bloomsbury’s extensive list of titles includes Jim Greenwood’s Total Rugby and a number of RFU Official Coaching guides.
With a tight deadline the LineoutCoach team has already begun reaching out to players for their contributions. “We want the first generation of professional rugby players to pass on their knowledge and experiences so we can safeguard and promote the game of rugby which we love.”
